Healthy Soil, Healthy Horse – a two-part event for horse owners/paddock managers
Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th September
Island Riding Centre, Staplers Rd, Newport PO30 2NB
18.30 – 21.30
Fiona Watkins – The Horse Nutritionist
Good nutrition is fundamental as the horse’s whole psychological and physiological system relies upon a continuous supply of the correct food. Horses can suffer from psychological stress – manifested in weaving, crib-biting, box-walking, rug-chewing – or physiological disorders such as colic, choke, or digestive upsets – as a direct result of an inappropriate feeding regime.
Good equine nutrition, therefore, has to remember the ‘gut design’ of our horses; the effects that this has on their psychology; as well as producing powerful performance results.
Stuart Myers Equiculture – The Equicentral System
By understanding horse behaviour, particularly their grazing behaviour, horse/land management becomes more straightforward. Once you know the relationship between horse welfare and their health, pasture and soil health, and how to balance these, you will be amazed at the benefits. It is not always a quick fix, but things usually start to turn around quite quickly. Each year, as the land becomes healthier, so do your horses. The Equicentral System becomes easier to implement as time goes on.
